If you’re looking for a new classic-style vibe that doesn’t cost a fortune, the Gyrating Lover from Cal Exotics has plenty of power, multiple speeds, and it comes in BRIGHT orange plastic. As well as pink and purple.
I requested it for review from EdenFantasys because the product page claims it gyrates. Wondering how the shaft of a hard plastic sex toy could possibly gyrate like those rabbits made from TPR and silicone, I pushed aside my “rechargeable only” prerequisite and disdain for cheap, novelty-grade vibes in order to find out.
Well, guess what? It doesn’t really gyrate. The motor produces a throbbing kind of vibration at the slower speeds, which makes the tip sort of look like it’s moving in a circular way, but it doesn’t have anywhere near the range of motion suggested on the packaging, and once you turn the speed up past mid-level, it just vibrates like a regular vibe.
I can’t give you details on specific speeds because Gyrating Lover has a dial control, which is pretty typical on this type of vibrator. They’re a lot less frustrating to use than awkward buttons and complicated controls, but the downside is that the dials often get bumped, accidentally turning on the motor and either causing an embarrassing moment or running down the batteries. The solution is to always remove the batteries before putting the vibe away.
Speaking of, Gyrating Lover takes 2 size C batteries. There aren’t many sex toys nowadays that call for C batteries, but the few I’ve reviewed that do were very powerful. So, maybe size does matter when it comes to batteries and bigger is better, but I still think rechargeable is best.
The packaging is typical for this manufacturer and price range, only the product picture on the front of the box is not life-size. In fact, Gyrating Lover is slightly longer than its paper box and has to sit in there diagonally. Mine was also wrapped in plastic inside the box.
The surface is smooth, PU-coated plastic, so it’s similar to the velvety feel of Luv Touch vibes, and it carries the vibrations pretty well. The motor has plenty of power, but I notice that if I push up against the vibe at the lower speeds the vibrations on the surface practically disappear, but I can still feel the motor running inside the shaft. At the faster speeds, the vibrations stay more consistently at the surface. But I wouldn’t describe that as “gyrating sensations” as the packaging claims.
The other C battery vibe I have is a Twilite Wand, which I love because it’s strong, rumbly, and has an easy control button. At their top speeds, Gyrating Lover is just as powerful as the Twilite Wand, but they do feel slightly different because the Twilite plastic is smooth and seems much thicker, and it has more surface area thanks to its large, rounded head. So between these two, I prefer the Twilite as a clit vibe. But since both make quite a bit of noise and aren’t rechargeable, I still typically reach for my We-Vibe Touch or Leaf Life.
As far as internal stimulation, I prefer curved toys when I’m playing with my G-spot, and even the Gyrating Lover’s strong vibrations don’t make up for the fact that its shaft is too straight to suit me. Also, it isn’t anal safe since it doesn’t have a flange or flared base. But it does just fine as an all-purpose vibe that can be used on any external erogenous zones as well as inserted vaginally. Or if you need a sex toy to take hunting with you.
