I'm a Summer Slacker

I haven’t updated my blog in ages, and since I don’t have a follow-up sex toy review for a Follow-Up Friday post today, here’s a brief update with some explanations and lame excuses.

For a start, it’s summer vacation, which means that I have less free time. Considering the types of products I review, any loss of my free time results in much less time spent on my blog. Certain things require privacy.

But before summer even began I started having all kinds of website-related problems, thanks to issues with my host server or hackers screwing up life for measly WordPress site owners like me, and these things always happened on days I had set aside to work on my blog. No shit. Oh, and then there was the bizarre glitch where I couldn’t reliably access my dashboard, and if I did it was insufferably slow. So all that led to a high level of frustration surrounding the whole thing. As well as a LOT of time wasted, and I totally lost enthusiasm.

I’ve also had other personal shit going on, nothing life threatening or traumatic, fortunately. But still time suckers nonetheless. And I do have a real job, which takes up real time, leaving me less time for wanking and posting product reviews.

I’m not stressing over my blog being behind, mostly because I don’t make enough in affiliate commissions to have an anxiety attack over my lack of posting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful for every cent my affiliate links make because it all helps, and I certainly appreciate the companies that send me products to try, but I seriously doubt this will ever be my primary source of income.

Still, I want to keep doing it. I have learned so much about sexual health, the adult products industry, and my own body in the past 3 years or so, and I have so much more to learn, and there are so many more sex toys to try. Plus, I like the idea that my feedback and opinions might help others make better shopping choices for themselves. I need to feel useful.

Believe it or not, this blog gives me an outlet. I’m not pretending to be creative or much of a writer, but I’m happy to share my opinion on a product, as well as my experience using it, frankly and honestly, without any sugar coating or glossing over the ways it could be better. I prefer this low-pressure approach because I’m no longer focused on making a sell to earn commission. I now consider this blog as more of a hobby than a source of income.

The nice thing about a hobby is that you can pursue it at your convenience, when it suits you. It’s okay to take a break when necessary and then pick it back up at a later time, or move on and do something else for a while then come back to it with a fresh perspective. “A change is as good as a rest” or however the saying goes.

I currently have a pending book review, and Tantus has something on the way to me, but the other items in my review queue are sex toys I’ve acquired on my own, mostly via a points rewards system that I no longer participate in. But I still have more than enough items to keep me going, and I’m super excited about picking up Tantus as an affiliate because they make awesome stuff. But you guys probably knew that already.
