Shunga Intimate Kisses Aphrodisiac Oil

Warming aphridisiac massage oilI’ve had a bottle of Shunga‘s Intimate Kisses Aphrodisiac Oil in my possession for several months now. It was included in my box of goodies from Shunga, if you remember the massage candle and lip gloss, so this review is long overdue. I had no problem putting those other items to immediate use, but I only recently got around to trying the aphrodisiac oil.

Thinking it was more like a massage oil, I was afraid it would make a mess. Knowing that it’s made mostly of glycerin, I envisioned an end result of sticky sheets and tacky skin. Which isn’t necessarily bad, as quite often the fun had is well worth the mess made. But still, I figured it would be best to wait until I had the time and was willing to contend with the expected clean-up. So my poor bottle of Strawberry and Champagne Aphrodisiac Oil patiently waited for many weeks until I finally realized that I would need to makethe time and just deal with any resulting mess.

Intimate Kisses Aphrodisiac Oilcomes in a clear glass bottle with a plastic stopper. I’m not worried about it spilling, because the stopper takes a bit of effort to lift off; I have to wiggle it back and forth a little while pulling up to remove it. The Shunga art on the label shows a man and woman kissing, and while there aren’t any genitals pictured, they appear to be naked from the waist down, and it’s pretty obvious what they’re up to. Or about to do.

The bottle is packaged in a cardboard tube, which also includes a product information brochure. The art on the outer cylinder matches the art on the bottle. Shunga Intitmate Kisses Aphrodisiac Oil is edible and contains the following ingredients: glycerin, propylene glycol, flavor, sodium saccharin, and FD&C colors, depending on flavor.

Once I read about this product I realized that it’s actually not meant to be used for massage. Turns out, you’re supposed to apply it to various areas of your and/or your partner’s body and then blow on it to create a warming effect. Then you can lick it off. So, it’s a really great foreplay enhancement. This can be a very good thing, encouraging couples to take more time for teasing and exploring each other’s erogenous zones.

I remember trying an adult product similar to this many years ago and being disappointed. I can’t remember what it was called, but it was included in one of those couple’s “romance” kits I bought from the novelty department at Spencer’s. That stuff tasted horrible and didn’t work very well. You got maybe a few seconds of warmth, which I’m convinced was just my partner’s breath.

Shunga’s Aphrodisiac Oil is different, and way better. You get a very distinct warming sensation, and it lasts for a few moments even after you stop blowing on it. Once licked off, I can feel a slight tingling sensation that also lasts a good few seconds (I’m guessing, since I haven’t timed it). I found that the oil works best if you rub it into the skin well when you apply it. Just smearing some on and then blowing doesn’t produce nearly the same amount of warming. Plus, rubbing the oil in reduces the sticky residue factor, if only because then there’s less dripping. The smell reminds me of cough syrup, and thanks to the bright pink color, it looks kind of like it too. As far as taste, I think the flavor is closer to cough syrup than strawberries or champagne. However, as long as you’re licking it off of skin, where it’s less concentrated, it’s not an unpleasant taste.
