China Doll Chiffon Babydoll

Red sheer baby-doll dress with matching thong made of nylon.I ordered the China Doll Chiffon Babydoll set from EdenFantasys.com this past spring for two main reasons: It’s made by Dreamgirl, who also makes the Belle De Jour Bustier that I’m still totally love with, so I knew that it would more than likely fit me, and I needed something new to wear for my sexy photo shoot. Oh, and of course I really like the way this set looks–it’s very feminine without being frilly. This truly is a lovely lingerie set, consisting of a red mesh babydoll style top and matching thong.

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of thongs, but since most lingerie pieces come with them, and it’s hard to find separate panties that are an exact match, I tolerate wearing a thong for brief periods. But I freely admit that it’s the first (and sometimes only) thing to come off.

Made from 100% nylon, the thong has a small gusset and elastic waistband, and it actually fits me fairly well. Usually with these things, if I have the waistband positioned on my hips then the panty part hangs down too low, creating a gap between me and the fabric. But that’s not the case with this thong. If anything, I could maybe use another half inch or so in the rise.

The top is also 100% nylon, and features decorative embroidery on the underwired bra cups and a shiny smooth ribbon trim all around the bottom. The material isn’t really silky, but it’s soft enough to be comfortable. There are two fabric toggle-type closures in between the bra cups, and an elasticated ribbon tie, so I’m pretty sure the babydoll will fit the size ranges listed. Located on the sides are little loops to thread the ribbon through. This keeps it in place when tied, otherwise it tends to slip down. The shoulder straps are also stretchy and adjustable.

In addition to the embroidery on the bra cups, they also are lined with a very thin, sheer fabric that is a tighter weave of mesh than the rest of the baby doll. I’m somewhere between a B and C cup, and the bra part fit me well and gave me adequate support. Two layers of mesh loosely flow down from the bra cups, the top layer being slightly shorter for a tiered look and leaving the wearer’s midriff exposed.

I think the quality is consistent with what you’d expect from lingerie at this price. I haven’t noticed any fraying on the stitching, and the pieces seem put together well enough, but there were a few stray threads I had to trim. As long as you hand wash it and let it air dry as instructed I reckon it should hold up pretty well. I’ve washed mine once so far, and it still looks brand new.

While I’ve worked past most of body image issues, I still prefer to have something at least partially covering my mid-section. That’s why I opt for bustiers and corsets over bra and panty sets. I honestly thought that this babydoll would look as flattering on me as it does on the model. But unfortunately, that isn’t the case. I have a long torso, rather wide shoulders, and short legs, so the skirt part of the babydoll doesn’t reach down to my hips. Because the fabric billows and flares out, I don’t get the nice hourglass shape effect. Instead, it makes me look bigger through my middle than I really am and somewhat out of proportion, which was disappointing. But I can’t really fault the China Doll Chiffon Babydoll for that, and at least now I know that this style of lingerie doesn’t suit my body type.
