Sliquid Oceanics

Sliquid Oceanics is my favorite lube from Sliquid thus far. Years ago, I used their Sliquid H2O because it was highly recommended as a glycerin-free and water-based lube. I had just found out that glycerin could trigger yeast infections in some women, and at the time that was something I was struggling with. The thing is, back then all the drugstore lubes–I guess I should say BOTH of the drugstore lubes, since it was a choice between KY and Astroglide–contained glycerin, so I had to order my first bottle of Sliquid off the internet. Luckily, it worked fairly well for me. It was rather thin, and I didn’t particularly like how it had a tendency to get sticky, but adding some water or saliva seemed to reactivate it, and the fact that it didn’t send me screaming in agony to my gynecologist with yet another raging yeast infection more than made up for it not staying slick very long.

Last year, I got to try the Sliquid Sassy Booty formula, which is thicker in consistency and meant to be good for anal play. That it is. I tend to prefer thicker lube anyway, so in my mind it was better for everything, including anal play. But it still dried out and got sticky. Reactivating it with spit only seemed to thin it down, and I liked it thick.

Sliquid makes a lot of different lubes now, including some silicone-based options, various flavored lubes, and of course all their water-based formulas. This is a good thing. Because people have different body chemistry and viscosity preferences, no one lube is going to work perfectly for everybody. But the Oceanics formula works very well for me. I love that it’s a nice, thick gel consistency, and it stays slick a lot longer than the other two Sliquid lubes I’ve tried. It also feels natural and very similar to my own lubrication, so I don’t get that overly-lubed-up sensation.

Sliquid Oceanics, like all Sliquid products, is glycerin, petroleum, and paraben free. It’s also vegan, is produced without any animal testing, and as a water-based lube, it also has the advantage of being compatible with condoms and all types of sex toys. Oceanics doesn’t contain any crazy-sounding chemicals. The ingredients are all natural and some are even certified organic extracts. Here’s what’s in it:

  • Purified water
  • Plant Cellulose (from cotton), this is a thickening agent.
  • Aloe Barbadensis, which is aloe vera leaf juice and has healing and moisturizing properties.
  • Natural Tocopherals, aka vitamin E, which is good for skin.
  • Hibiscus, this flower is considered to have a number of medicinal uses in Chinese herbology.
  • Flax, which is rich in micronutrients.
  • Alfalfa, another plant with healing properties.
  • Green tea, which actually has anti-inflammatory properties when applied topically.
  • Sunflower seed, commonly used in cosmetics as an emollient.
  • Carrageenan, a gelling agent and stabilizer.
  • Nori, a type of seaweed.
  • Wakame, another type of seaweed.
  • Potassium Sorbate, a preservative.
  • Citric Acid, another preservative.

It’s my understanding that the seaweeds not only act as thickening agents, but also have soothing effects and are good for skin. Plus, with a name like Oceanics, I guess there needs to be some sea elements in there somewhere. I have sensitive skin, and nothing in this lube has been the least bit irritating to me.

Despite all the edible extracts in this lube, there somehow isn’t any taste or smell to it. This is excellent news for those of us who like oral play. It also stays slick for a long time, without getting all gummy or drying out. The only thing I’ve noticed is that it does become foamy, but it still feels really slick. I was afraid that it would leave a residue, but no! It absorbs nicely into my skin without any kind of residuum. It also washes away easily and doesn’t stain.

Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned the packaging. Sliquid Oceanics comes in a brown bottle, with a very discreet label and flip-top lid for easy dispensing. Now, I do prefer a pump-top because I’m lazy and want to be able to get my lube with just one hand. However, a flip-top lid is my second choice because I don’t have to waste time unscrewing the cap. But I love the fact that at first glance the bottle looks like lotion or massage oil, because that means I don’t have to hide it. Bottom line: I think Oceanics is the best of the 3 Sliquid lubes I’ve had the pleasure of trying, and I’m glad Babeland.com sent me a bottle of it to review.

I love Sliquid lubes! I recently did a review on the Heads Up Kit from GoodVibes, who gave me Sliquid Cherry Blossom lube. I'd never tried it before and it is wonderful. Thank you for your review!
