Follow-Up Friday: Sliquid H2O
Having just reviewed Sliquid Oceanics, I decided to let Sliquid H2O be this week’s Follow-Up Friday, even though I never posted a review of it here. But it was the first product I reviewed on EdenFantasys.com, nearly a year ago. It was also the first glycerin-free water-based lube I ever tried, and at the time it opened up a whole new world to me.

Women’s bodies do a lot. We’re responsible for nurturing the next generation during gestation and (if we breastfeed) throughout infancy. Both pregnancy and lactation require hormone shifts and body changes, and all of that can affect our sexual response. For example, the hormones associated with lactation suppresses ovulation and can also thin the vaginal walls. This often results in lack of sex drive and vaginal dryness. So, my shortage of natural lubrication wasn’t due to me being a frigid cow so much as my body going through major changes.
When I spoke to my gynecologist about intercourse being uncomfortable, and even painful at times, she asked if I used lube. I guess my blank stare answered her question because she then quickly reminded me to be sure and use lube. But she didn’t explain why. I had to go home and look that up myself. Nor did she give me any kind of guidance as to the type of lube. She used KY on patients, which was readily available, so that’s what I bought. Then a friend of mine suggested Astroglide because it stayed slick longer, so I got a bottle of that to use. Not long afterwards, I started having trouble with yeast infections.
I soon figured out that the lubes were to blame, but it was a while before I discovered why. In the intervening time I was stuck with either minimally enjoyable sex that may or may not even be comfortable, or good sex resulting in a yeast infection that would delay any more sex for a few days, not to mention involve all the discomfort and hassle of dealing with said yeast infection… Anyway, and I didn’t mean to ramble on about my history with lube here, I think it was while listening to the Sex is Fun podcast episode where they discuss lube that I had my revelation: Glycerin is a form of sugar. Yeast loves sugar. Both of the lubes I’d been using had glycerin listed as the second or third ingredient. I needed a glycerin-free lube!
So the search began. I think the Sex is Fun gang actually recommended Sliquid H2O or at least mentioned it, because that’s what I ordered. And it was amazing. I could finally have lovely, sloppy, slick sex and not fear waking up with a nagging itch that only heralded the beginning of a new yeast infection. Life was good!
Except… well, the Sliquid H2O didn’t stay slippery long enough. As it dried up, it would get sticky, which was not at all pleasant. This meant having to either apply more or reactivate it with some water or spit, which sounds easy enough. But when you’re working towards or even close to reaching a crucial moment, the last thing you want to do is stop and fix the lubrication situation. It’s also a thinner consistency, and I prefer thicker, gel-like lubes. Over time, I found other lubes I liked much better, but this is still a great lube.
- It’s a high-quality product from a sex positive and women-friendly company.
- It’s odorless, tasteless (well, to me it has a very slight soapy flavor), and doesn’t stain.
- It comes packaged in a discreet bottle.
- The bottle cap has a flip-up lid, which is much quicker and easier than a screw-off top.
- In addition to being glycerin-free, it’s also paraben and petroleum free, as well as vegan-friendly.
- It’s reasonably priced and readily available from most online adult product retailers.
- It’s compatible with all types of toy materials and condoms.
Okay, so I realize now that this isn’t so much a follow-up review of Sliquid H2O as a rambling personal story of my history with lube use. But that’s okay. Hopefully my experience it will help somebody while not simultaneously boring everyone else.

Great info. I loved the sound of Sliquid and I plan on keeping an eye out for it. I totally felt the same about lube I also thought something was wrong with me. I've changed the way I think about many things sex related in the last year or so. Lube now is just an extra to use like a toy.
Thank you so much for the follow up review! I don't know a lot about lubes, as I haven't reviewed more than 4, so this actually helped me. I knew Glycerin was a form of sugar, but usually forget all about it when trying out a lube, and you just reminded me. I also didn't know that Glycerin causes yeast infections, as I've never had one. Wow, I am so sorry that happened to you! And now I know why people make such a big deal about Glycerin and Paraben free lubes! Thank you!
