Intimate Organics Relaxing Aromatherapy Cleansing Gel

A while back I reviewed the Intimate Organics Body Souffle. I love it so much that I bought some more when that tube ran out, and since it was such great lotion I decided to try another Intimate Organics product. They have a lot of really cool stuff to chose from. While the Foaming Bath looked very tempting and was available in the same orange and ginger scent I absolutely adore, I opted for the Aromatherapy Cleansing Gel since I’m more of a shower person and rarely take baths. This meant having to try a different flavor, the “Relaxing” scent of Lemongrass and Coconut water.

I like the way it smells, but I definitely prefer the orange and ginger. I love citrus scents, and while the coconut water gives this cleansing gel a nice tropical aroma, I was hoping for more of a clean, lemony smell. It’s not overly perfumy or sickly, but it does seem more heavily fragranced than the body souffle. I suppose that makes sense as you’re meant to use it while bathing, which dilutes it. The scent stays on the skin nicely, but it’s not overpowering. I don’t like shower gels that cling to you with their heavy fragrance in such a way that it’s ALL you can smell the entire day. Just a nice subtle hint of what you bathed with is all that’s needed, and that’s what you get with this stuff.

The packaging is a plastic 8 ounce (240 ml) bottle with a flip-top lid. There’s a picture of a naked lady’s midriff on the label, and you can catch a glimpse of the underside of one breast, but I wouldn’t really consider that nudity. It’s very tastefully done and discreet enough in my opinion, and in all honesty, this is a shower gel, so the image is consistent with the product. It looks like all Intimate Organics packaging shares this design. There is product information and a complete ingredients list printed on the back.

Just like with the Body Souffle, I’m a bit bummed by the long list of scary-sounding ingredients. Whenever a brand includes the word “organic” in their name, I tend to expect very few, all-natural ingredients. There are too many for me to lookup exactly what each one is and what it does, but I’ll list then here in case anyone has sensitive skin or particular sensitivities to any of the ingredients.

Intimate Organics Relaxing Aromatherapy Cleansing Gel contains: Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Acrylates Copolymer, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycol Stearate, Parfum, Cocamide DEA, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Triethanolamine, Cocamide MEA, Laureth-12, DMDM Hydantoin, Benzophenone 4, and Disodium EDTA, Water (and) Alcohol (and) Certified Organic Lycium Barbarum (Goji Berry) Fruit Extract (and) Certified Organic Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemon Grass) Leaf/Stem Extract (and) Certified Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Extract. It may also contain Blue 1, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 33,  and Violet 2. For a mostly clear shower gel, that seems like a lot of colors it “may” contain. The good news is that it doesn’t have any parabens, DEA, or animal products, so it’s vegan-friendly. Also, the extracts are certified organic.

The gel is a nice and thick consistency, so it lathers up really well in a loofah. It doesn’t seem to produce much cushion between the loofah and skin, though. I feel like the suds don’t prevent the loofah from dragging on me as much as other shower gels I’ve tried, and that was a bit disappointing because I really like the luxurious feeling of soft, silky bubbles. I’m not sure if that’s due to the shower gel itself, my particular body chemistry, or maybe it’s because we have really hard water where I live. Perhaps it’s a combination of all three?

Overall, I think it’s a good shower gel. It does leave my skin feeling soft and smelling nice, so it does what it’s supposed to do. I wish it didn’t have so many ingredients, and I’m not sure if I like it enough to get more once I use all up the rest of this bottle, but I’m not sorry I bought it. I was really hoping to love this cleansing gel as much as the Body Souffle, but in all honesty I’m not as impressed with it. It’s still a good product, though, and worth trying if you like shower gels and tropical scents.
