Follow-Up Friday: Pocket Rocket Jr
My Pocket Rocket Jr has been with me a few years now. It was the second sex toy I bought, after listening to Carlin Ross talk about using her Pocket Rocket way back when she was podcasting with Susan Crain Bakos. At the time I wanted a small and quiet vibrator that didn’t tether me to an electrical outlet (everything my beloved Hitachi was not, basically) and the Pocket Rocket Jr was very affordably priced at under $10.
For many, many months this was my “go to” vibe when I needed external vibration without the hassle of setting up the Hitachi. It’s ideal for use during couple play, since it’s such a discreet and handy size. Also, there’s just the one speed, and while that is somewhat limiting, it’s powerful enough to be effective and also quick and easy: just twist the handle, and you’re good to go without fiddling around with buttons or dials trying to find the right setting.
The Pocket Rocket Jr is a scaled-down version of the traditional Pocket Rocket. Mine came with a little strap and removable cap. The size N battery that powers it was also included, which is good because up until that point I had never even noticed that there was such a battery type, much less kept any on hand. And that’s really my only complaint about this vibe: it takes an awkward battery size. Although, now that I have several vibes that take N batteries, I no longer consider that to be such a hassle. Lately watch-size batteries are the bane of my life… Anyway, the Pocket Rocket Jr isn’t long enough to accommodate a more standard size battery, so that’s the trade off with a toy this small.
I originally reviewed this vibe last spring over on EdenFantasys.com, but as I recently mentioned in my Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Mite review, I haven’t been treating my Pocket Rocket Jr very well, and it’s starting to show some wear. In fact, I don’t have the rounded cap anymore. It cracked when I accidentally stepped on it (after repeatedly dropping it because I’m clumsy that way). I thought about trying to super glue it back together, but I ended up throwing it away, after snapping a quick picture for posterity. Sorry the photo is blurry, my hands aren’t the steadiest.
The main case also got cracked at some point, right there where the words are, but that so far hasn’t affected the performance. I do notice that the battery compartment now slides off really easily, so I have to be careful when I’m using it not to turn it too far back or it just pops open. But I’d say it’s a sturdy little vibe to have endured that kind of abuse and to still be running. I should also mention that while the battery size thing is a drawback, the battery lasts a nice long time in this toy. The only thing worse than having a vibe that takes bizarre batteries is having to constantly replace said batteries, and that’s luckily not the case with my Pocket Rocket Jr.
So, to sum up: this is a great product, well worth the 10 bucks, or whatever they sell for nowadays. It’s probably not going to last forever, but it’s an easy keeper and an ideal discreet vibe.
