Blossom Organics Warm Sensation Moisturizing Lubricant

Warming lubes, as well as stimulating gels and creams, create a warm and/or tingling sensation wherever they’re applied, thereby increasing arousal and enhancing sex. Remember a few weeks ago when I was raving on about how much I love Blossom Organics Moisturizing lube? Well, the same company also makes a warming lube, and the great folks at GoodVibes.com were kind enough to send me a bottle of that to review as well.

I’ve been hesitant to try any kind of warming lube or stimulating gel in the past because most of them contain glycerin, and I’m also leery of whatever ingredient is causing the tingly/warming sensation as I have rather sensitive skin. To be honest, thought, I’ve often wondered if I’m missing out on something, and I hate feeling like I might be missing out on something. Since I had such great luck with the regular Blossom Organics lube, I figured their warming formula would be a good one to start with. I carefully read the list of ingredients before requesting it, and nothing in there scared me off wanting to give it a try.

Blossom Organics Warm Sensation Moisturizing Lubricant comes packaged just like their regular lube, in a flip-top tube inside a thin cardboard box. The ingredients are only listed on the box, so save it if you may need to know what’s in the lube for future reference, otherwise it can be recycled. Both versions of lube have the same graphics and bottle design, and the colors are very similar (Warm Sensationis a bit darker and more purple). While it’s great because that means it’s nice and discreet and easily blends in with other lotions and skin care products, you need to pay attention if you have both types on hand because it would be easy to mistake one for the other.

Like the regular Blossom Organics lube, Warm Sensation is water-based, so it’s condom safe and compatible with all sex toys. It’s also free of parabens, petrochemicals, silicones, glycerin, alcohol, dyes, flavorings, fragrances, and hormones. The full list of ingredients is nearly identical to the non-warming version, with the addition of peppermint essential oil. It contains:

  • Organic aloe barbadensis leaf extract (aloe vera leaf juice which has healing and moisturizing properties)
  • Sorbitol (a humectant and thickener commonly used in cosmetics)
  • Hydroxyethylcellulose (a gelling/thickening agent derived from plants)
  • Hyaluronic acid (scary-sounding name for a natural fluid present in our bodies, used as a topical humectant in cosmetics)
  • Organic stevia rebaudiana extract (herb used as a sweetener, this explains the slightly sweet taste)
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E, which is considered to be good for skin)
  • Sodium citrate (a preservative and antioxidant)
  • Potassium Sorbate (a preservative)
  • Organic menthapiperita (peppermint) essential oil (this would be the stimulating ingredient, and it makes the lube smell faintly of peppermint)
  • Organic extracts of paeonia albiflora (peony) root and passiflora incarnata flower (both are considered medicinal, and as I already said, with a name like Blossom Organics, there should be some flowers in there somewhere)

So,  now that I’ve covered all the specs and other technical details, let me talk about performance. Consistency-wise, this feels very much like the regular Blossom Organics lube. I think it might be a tiny bit thicker, but that could just be my imagination. Either way, it feels the same and lasts just as long, so I’m thrilled about that.

I’m also happy to report that I didn’t get the scorching heat on my vulva that I was fearing. In fact, the first time I used it I didn’t really feel much difference at all. If anything, it felt cool to me, but I think that’s because I have chronically cold hands. Maybe my freezing fingers were keeping the warming lube from actually warming?

Thinking maybe it’s not ideal for manual masturbation, especially for those of us with chilly fingers, I next applied some Warm Sensation to the inside of my wrist and gently blew on it to see it that did the trick. After a few seconds, I felt a very subtle warming sensation that was tingly and quite pleasant, and I found that to be the case no matter where I used it. Putting it on and letting it rest on my skin for a few seconds is really the only way I get any kind of warming feel from it, and even then it’s mild.

This isn’t the lube I grab when I’m needing some quick slick, as I found that in order for the warming sensation to work for me it has to rest on my skin, with no friction, for a few moments. Rather, I use a little Warming Sensation beforehand (or before hand, whichever), to wake up those nerve endings and get the blood flowing. Also, on me the warming/tingling effect really only lasts until other forms of stimulation take over. Based on my experiences, I’d say this is a good one to start out with for those new to warming/stimulating lubes, as it’s pretty gentle.
