Moist Lubricant Dispenser

lube dispenser sex toyA while ago I stumbled upon a review for Pipedream’s Moist Lubricant Dispenser, and I though it looked really clever. It’s basically 21 ounces of water-based Moist Lubricant in a mini distilled water bottle, complete with a dispenser that’s designed to look like an office water cooler. I appreciate quick and user-friendly packaging, like pump-top bottles, when it comes to lube because I’d rather not waste time unscrewing caps or flipping up lids. Well, what could be easier than a lube water cooler?

Not long after reading Mistress Kay’s reviewPipedream held a giveaway contest on Twitter for their lube dispenser, and I was lucky enough to win. Scored! In my excitement I neglected to check the lube ingredients, so I was pretty bummed when I got the dispenser and realized that Moist contains glycerin. This is not a problem for most people, but unfortunately it is for me. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with 21 ounces of lube I couldn’t really use, so I set it aside and forgot about it. For a while, at least.

Well, a few days ago I realized that it has been stashed away while I know people that could use it. This seemed like a huge waste, so I decided to divvy the Moist up into smaller bottles and share the wealth. I didn’t want to give away the dispenser. I figured the bottle could be refilled with a similar consistency glycerin-free lube, thereby allowing me to enjoy the convenience of my water-cooler style lube dispenser. In the process of all this, I got a pretty good look at the dispenser and lube itself.

Moist contains the following ingredients:
  • Water
  • Glycerin (humectant and improves smoothness)
  • Propylene Glycol (moisturizer commonly used in cosmetics)
  • Sodium Polymethlacrylate (a water-absorbing polymer)
  • Hydroxyethylcellulose (thickening agent)
  • Sodium Benzoate (preservative)
  • Carbomer (thickening and emulsifying agent)
  • Tetrahydroxypropyl Ethylenediamine (chelating agent)
  • Tetrasodium EDTA (chelating)
  • PEG-45M (humectant)
  • Methylparaben (preservative)
  • Diazolidinyl Urea (preservative)

The lube is a little on the thin side, but it’s not too runny. I suppose a gel consistency wouldn’t be practical when using this type of dispenser, as it would take forever to come out. It tastes kind of sweet to me, with a hint of soapiness. It’s not an unpleasant taste at all, and the smell is pretty neutral. The lube feels really slippery and stayed slick with me just rubbing it on my fingers.

The dispenser is a lightweight plastic. With the lube bottle full, it seemed a bit top heavy to me. That’s something to watch because just like with a real water cooler, the open bottle of Moist just sits on top of the dispenser; it’s not secured in place. There’s a cool little removable grid to catch any drips, and the spout’s button is easy to press. The Moist comes out in a trickle, which is ideal since it’s lube and not water.

For people who don’t go through a lot of lube, the Moist Dispenser would have more novelty value, and I think it’s a fun addition to the bedroom. But for situations where a lot of lube may be required, this would be very practical.
