My Toy Cleaner

I often mention toy cleaner in my reviews because it can be safely used on all materials, and it’s sometimes the most convenient way to clean sex toys that aren’t waterproof or have a lot of surface texture. The Pixie Plus is a great example. I certainly don’t want to risk getting water in the battery compartment of the shaft or around the bullet’s cord, but at the same time, the entire toy is covered in soft, spiked texture that is a haven for residue and germs. Toy cleaner is the ideal solution. I’m currently using the My Toy Cleaner from Fascinations.

My Toy Cleaner is clear, unscented, and comes in a 4 ounce, pump-top spray bottle. The label is discreet enough. While it does state that this product is in fact a toy cleaner, it doesn’t specify what sort of toys it cleans. I just turn the bottle so the label faces the wall, and it blends in just fine with the other hair and skin care products on my bathroom counter.

The active ingredient is the antibacterial and antifungal agent Triclosan. This toy cleaner also contains the following ingredients, some of which may pose some safety or sensitivity concerns, so I linked each ingredient to its relevant Wikipedia page.

Now, I know some of those ingredients may sound rather scary, but I have sensitive skin, and so far I haven’t experienced any irritation from using this product to clean my toys. Since the toy cleaner doesn’t need to come in direct contact with skin, I think it’s safe enough. It’s super easy to use, too. Just unplug/remove any batteries, spray the toy’s surface “generously” with toy cleaner, wait 30 seconds, wipe, and then rinse off completely. Dry with clean cloth or paper towel.

For the most part, I use the soap-and-warm-water method for cleaning my toys because that’s also compatible with all toy materials. But I do like having toy cleaner on hand for when dunking my vibe in a sink full of hot soapy water isn’t an option. Even if toys aren’t going to be shared, it’s still important to make sure they’re clean, especially with slightly porous materials or textures that have the potential to harbor residue and germs.
