Pink Unity
Since I really like Pink Water lubricant, I’ve been wondering how I would like other lubes from the same product line. I’ve also been wanting to try a water and silicone based hybrid lube. So I was really excited when Fascinations sent me a bottle of Pink Unity to try.
I love the packaging of Pink lubes. The bottles are discreet and have a handy pump top, which I prefer over flip-top lids. I will say that the amount of lube dispensed isn’t enough. It takes two full pumps to get a decent amount, but it’s still more convenient than having to turn the bottle upside-down and squeeze. Pink Unity is both glycerin-free and paraben-free and contains the following ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, and Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Tuarate Copolymer.
I’m not sure what all those things are, but somehow silicone molecules are merged with water. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? In theory, this should be long-lasting like silicone-based lube, with the easy cleanup of water-based lube. The perfect solution for those who like silicone-based lube because it’s long lasting but hate the cleanup, as well as those who love the feel and convenience of water-based lube but are frustrated by how quickly it dries out.
I fall into the latter category. I prefer water-based lube for most activities because it’s compatible with all toy materials and easy to clean off. As much as I appreciate the benefits of silicone lube, most days I’d rather not have the cleanup. I also prefer a thicker lube, since those don’t drip and tend to stay where you put them. Pink Unity comes out of the bottle as a lovely clear gel that feels slightly greasy. It reminds me of the new clear and unscented Mary Kay night cream for some reason, only its consistency isn’t that thick. On application, Pink Unity disperses on the skin and loses its viscosity, so that it begins to feel less like gel lube and more like thin wetness, similar to sweat. Also, while this lube doesn’t have any smell, it does have a bitter taste.
I have sensitive skin and know to avoid certain ingredients that do not agree with me. I try to chose my lubes accordingly to prevent any kind of reaction, but some products that work very well for most people just aren’t a good match for me. Unfortunately, this is the case with Pink Unity, which is shame because I really wanted to like this lube. Rather than experiencing satiny smooth lubrication, during use the lube became unpleasantly clammy, and I started feeling a mild burning sensation. It also left a filmy residue on me, which required more cleanup effort than I expected and irritated my skin.
I’m not giving up on hybrid lubes, though. If you are interested in trying Pink Unity, it would be worth your time to read what other reviewers have to say about it. Since skin type, sensitivities, and body chemistry vary by individual, there is no perfect lube for everybody. Maybe someday there will be, but in the meantime, I’ll keep having fun looking.
