Hannah Harper’s Butterfly

Hannah Harper Butterfly sex toy vibrator reviewYes, yes, I know I review a lot of dual-stimulation vibrators. That’s because I love them. They are all just a little bit different, and I love playing with the various sizes, styles, textures, and functions. Even the ones that don’t quite fit my anatomy are fun because I actually enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to adjust or position them to do their job.

Rabbit-style vibes are definitely my favorite for solo play, so I’m always eager to try new ones. Perhaps one day I’ll even make a name for myself as a rabbit vibe connoisseur. In the meantime, I really should review as many as possible, so I was thrilled to receive a Hannah Harper’s Butterfly from Pipedream to try.

Hannah Harper Butterfly sex toy vibrator reviewThis vibe has a total length of almost 8 inches, nearly 5 of which are insertable. It only measures around 4 inches in girth at the widest part, so this is a good size for beginners or those who prefer a smaller toy. Like most dual-stimulators, Hannah Harper’s Butterfly has two motors, one in the shaft and one in the attached butterfly-covered bullet.

Made from TPR silicone (I think), it’s phthalates free with a soft and slightly squishy feel. This material also has some surface drag and is a lint magnet. Straight out of the plastic packaging, I definitely detected a chemical smell, so I washed this toy with antibacterial soap and warm water (toy cleaner works too) several times and left it to air out. Thankfully, the smell disappeared after a couple of days. I’d stick with water-based lube when playing with this vibe, and I store mine in a plastic bag to help keep it clean.

Hannah Harper Butterfly sex toy vibrator reviewThere is a power button to turn the vibe on and off, a handy little indicator light, and another button to control the motors, so they both operate at the same speed/setting. There are 7 different vibrations to play with: 3 speeds of continuous vibration, an escalating pattern, a pulse, a shorter-sharper-faster pulse, and  a short-short-short-long pulse mode. The vibrations themselves are very nice and rumbly, especially the escalating setting, but the fastest vibration speed may feel a little buzzy to some. Running on only 2 AA batteries, this vibe has plenty of power.

The butterfly wings and antennae aren’t very flappy and flexible compared to the long, soft ears on a Rabbit Habit that freely jiggle about. While the vibration can be felt through the wings, they don’t really move that much. The antennae pick up the vibration nicely and flutter, but I think I would like it better if they were a bit longer to reach higher up on my clitoris.

THannah Harper Butterfly sex toy vibrator reviewhe shaft on Hannah Harper’s Butterfly is slightly curved to hit the g-spot. One side of the tip has a bumpy, nubby texture, but the rest of the shaft is smooth. Here I would prefer smaller and softer bumps. While I love that the texture adds some grip than can certainly be felt internally, for me it makes this toy a little tricky to insert. Also, the bumpy surface requires some extra attention during cleaning, since lube/residue/soap tends to want to linger in there. Just under the curve the shaft is very flexible, allowing the tip to bend and move around.

The smooth side of the tip can be used for some clitoral stimulation to get warmed-up and jump-start arousal, then turn it around an use the nubby side for some variety and texture. The different speeds and vibration patterns offer plenty of choices and combinations of stimulation, and the simple button control makes getting to the desired setting easy. This sex toy is certainly different from any other rabbit-style vibe I’ve tried so far, and I’m glad I got to try it. But it just doesn’t work all that well for me.
