Don’t Stop Massage Candle
For a while I wanted to try massage candles. I like candles, I love being massaged, and I was curious about wax play. When I found Booty Parlor’s Don’t Stop Massage Candles on sale, I decided to buy one in Spicy Chocolate Cinnamon.
I must say, Booty Parlor gets their packaging right. It really looks like a fancy candle from a boutique, which I suppose for the price it should. Inside the black box with elegant pink and white scrollwork and lettering, is a smaller cardboard insert around the candle. There is plenty of useful product information printed on the box, such as an ingredients list, directions for use, and care instructions.
The porcelain jar containing the candle features a removable lid which doubles as a coaster, a pretty pink and black decorative ribbon (also removable), and a spout for easy pouring. Again, props to Booty Parlor for making their products look so pretty.
Let me just give you a quick rundown on the specs for those interested. For those not, feel free to skip the next 2 paragraphs. This candle features a cotton wick and is made from soy wax, shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, palm kernel oil, olive oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Fragrance/EO blend. So, there are some lovely moisturizing ingredients in there!
This candle does not contain any paraffin, paraben, dyes, or colorants, which is great news for those wishing to avoid those things. According to the information printed on the box, it has a burn time of around 46 hours, but you’re not supposed to burn it longer than 2 hours at a time.
This candle is a bit high-maintenance and has specific use and care instructions. Before lighting for the first time and after each use, trim the wick to 1/4″ (wick may need to be re-centered before trimming). Then allow candle to burn until a level pool of oil forms over the surface. Put out the flame and then gently pour onto desired area (not for internal or sensitive area use) and use as massage oil. The melted wax stays a pourable consistency for around 10- 15 minutes. It’s a good idea to keep the lid on the jar when not in use, as this candle needs to stay stored in a cool, dark place away from heat and sunlight and avoiding temperatures over 115 degrees. So no leaving it in the car on a hot day.
Now, you might be wondering, after all my pining and coveting, if this candle lived up to my expectations. Sadly, it did not. To be fair, I quite possibly had unrealistically high hopes. As far as being a candle, I love the way it smells and will still enjoy the lovely scent as I gradually burn away what’s left of its 46 hours. But I personally did not like it for massage purposes.
I thought I could use the candle right after extinguishing the wick, but the melted wax was too hot, so I had to wait a few minutes for it to cool before it was a comfortable temperature. I expected the melted wax to luxuriously absorb into my skin, but instead I found that it solidified too soon and left a rather greasy-but-still-sticky residue. Ick.
The other issue was with the wick. This is where paying close attention to care instructions comes in handy. In addition to re-centering and trimming the wick, you must also be careful when pouring to make sure none of the melted wax gets on the wick tip. Otherwise, the wick won’t light. I learned this the hard way and ended up scraping a good 1/4″-1/2″ of wax off the surface in order to get enough wick exposed so we could burn the candle again.
The Don’t Stop Massage Candle is still a gorgeously packaged, delightfully scented candle, and I love the clean-burning, skin-friendly ingredients. Even though my experience was less than ideal with this one, I’m not giving up on massage candles. There are plenty out there to try with more affordable price tags. One of my favorite online adult toy stores offers a good variety of massage candles.
