Grrl Toyz Silk Touch Egg Vibe
I loved the look of this vibe, and I was eager to try a remote-control egg, even though this one looks more like a bullet. Well, I suppose the controller looks kind of like an egg. One that has been flattened or something, but anyway…
The Silk Touch Egg is well named. Thanks to the velvet feel of the phthalate-free plastic, the surface is soft and silky, without any discernible smell or taste. This material is compatible with all lubes and easy to clean with antibacterial soap and water. Store with the bullet unplugged, either in its original packaging or with the batteries removed. Otherwise, if anything bumps the button, that’s the vibe on and its batteries getting flat. Luckily, it doesn’t take up much space, so this is a pretty easy one to hide. The packaging is an easy-to-open, clear plastic clamshell, and the Silk Touch Egg comes nestled in its own molded insert. Product information and care instructions are printed on the paper insert behind the toy.
This toy is a AAA battery-operated powerhouse and produces seriously intense vibrations. There are six patterns: continuous vibration, short pulses, a short-long-long pulse pattern, a sequence of 5 short pulses followed by a long pulse, a medium-short-long pulse pattern, and 2 short sharp pulses followed by a slightly longer pulse. So, lots of variety there to play with. The strong vibration is felt all along the bullet. The rounded tip is great for targeted stimulation, and the wide ribbed texture adds some tactile variety. There is also a handy stem where the cord connects, which is convenient for holding the vibe. Otherwise, this one would be a real hand-number. The size, shape, and texture are all ideal for sex toy beginners, but the power is plenty intense for vibe veterans.
At around 3 inches in length, with 2 1/2 inches being insertable, and around an inch in diameter, the vibrator component is discreet in size, but the cord and remote are bit more obtrusive, as is the noise. Yep, this is one of the louder toys, but that’s really no surprise considering its power. It does give you plenty of vibration, either internal or clitoral, but it’s not really shaped for targeted G-spot stimulation.
The controls are pretty simple, so this toy is easy to use. An old-school style telephone cord (for those who remember back when phones had cords) connects the vibe to the remote. Simply plug the bullet/egg into its battery pack/controller, and it’s ready to go. The big shiny button turns the vibe on and changes the setting. The small dial controls the intensity, and underneath it are six lighted notches to indicate the vibration mode. I’m actually glad the vibe has these lights to show that it’s on, because otherwise you wouldn’t know unless the bullet is still attached. While the controls are easy and convenient, I don’t feel much difference in vibration intensity. The toy is certainly powerful enough, but I would prefer to have a “low” setting that was actually slow. Also, the button feels flimsy, and it often skips a setting, acting as if I pressed it twice from s single push. The button also clicks loudly which can be distracting.
The cord is nice and stretchy but rather bulky. It kept getting in the way when I used this toy during sex, to the point of leaving an imprint on my skin. I was rather shocked to look down and see uniform dashes in a curved pattern along my side, until I realized that it was where the cord had pressed against me. Another disadvantage is the need for two hands–one holding the control and the other holding the bullet. I find vibes that can be held and operated with the same hand more convenient for use during sex because I like having a hand free.
